Anomala-what? Anomalocaris of course.

Originally found in the Burgess Shale formation (if you are unfamiliar, it’s definitely worth reading about: Burgess Shale Wiki Page), anomalocaris had truly spectacular eyes, with more than 16,000 lenses. It seems only dragonflies have more, an astounding 28,000! Growing to more than a meter in length these “irregular shrimp” were quite fearsome predators. Perhaps the apex predator of their domain, they may have regularly attacked trilobites. You should not encounter this creature at your local beach however, as they swam the seas of times long past (500 million years ago to be more specific).
